Retrowave in Toronto: Outland 2019 & FM-84
Outland 2019 is world's best retrowave event held every year in a random city around the world. The 2019 edition of Outland was extra special since it was taking place in my hometown of Toronto at the vibrant music venue: Modclub.
It was an incredible evening with all my favorite retrowave artists, Dana Jean Phoenix, TimeCop1982 (Jordy Leenaerts), Kalax, FM-Attack, Parallels and Michael Oakley.
The week prior, FM-84 was in town to perform live at Modclub as well, I included the photos and videos in this event report. Also, NINA flew down from Europe to perform at the RecRoom, it is great to see synthwave making more and more traction on the music stage.
Retrowave and synthwave exploded in the past years, the music has such nostalgic vibes for anyone who grew up in the 80's with solid influx of retro video games as well.
Dana Jean Phoenix gave her best performance yet, the crowd was going absolutely wild! She is the complete package, high-energy, a great voice and solid melodies, Dana just makes you smile everytime you see her.
It has been a big dream of me to meet Shawn Ward of FM-84 and Jordy of Timecop 1983 for many years now, and to have them perform at the same event a few blocks from my house was a true miracle.
If you haven't been to any retrowave or synthwave events, you are truly missing out, the atmosphere is euphoric and the crowd is very friendly. Add Outland 2020 to your bucket list!
