Enoshima Beach: Most Popular Beach near Tokyo
Enoshima beach is popular among the youth from Tokyo. The beach offers many lounges, bars and clubs where you can party, drink and dance until the early morning.
My friends invited me to come to the beach in Enoshima which is about an hour train ride from Tokyo.
I grew up in a beach town in the Netherlands where I lived for 21 years enjoying the Northsea every summer thus I was very excited to check out an actual Japanese beach.
My friends were already camping out on the Enoshima East-Beach which could be easily reached within minutes from the Katase-Enoshima train station.
The first thing I noticed was the sand which wasn't all to great but the ocean was nice and warm. Japan is not known for white sand beaches on the main island but they can be found on the southern islands like Okinawa.
It was my first time on a Pacific side beach so it was a memorable moment. Eating sushi on the beach made the experience even more memorable.
A bunch of Japanese girls were performing a HulaHula dance on a stage in the middle of the beach (see video).
I made many new friends walking around the Enoshima beaches. Especially when I walked into a giant group of people that were taking a group photo so I took the opportunity and joined in.
Afterwards we went to a local ramen shop for some hot delicious Shoyu Ramen were I had a fun conversation with a few senior Japanese dudes. All-in-all a fantastic day on the beach.
