Nightlife in Hongdae - Seoul, Korea
Hongdae is the place to be during the evenings in Seoul, this student rich district has everything to offer from laidback lounges to hole-in-the-wall bars. Get drunk with a few locals over a few bottles of Soju and some strange Korean snacks.
Before arriving in Seoul I reserved myself an apartment from AirBNB in the center of the Hongdae district.
Hongdae is the university town of Seoul where many bars and clubs can be found. Many students swarm the streets late at night until the early morning.
I found bars in Hongdae that are open 24/7 - they basically do not close so you can literally drink and feast until your body caves in.
My friend Joeun and I found a really cool bar above some stores with some of the most awkward stairs I have ever seen. It would be impossible for many people to enter the bar (see video).
During the evening you can see many street performers and musicians in downtown Hongdae, they create a cozy atmosphere especially on a rainy day.
Hongdae is also popular for its fried street food ranging from fried pork, beef and vegetables to spicy pork intestines (Chitterlings).
I also found a crazy karaoke building where you can look into the karaoke rooms from street level. Some rooms had a childish bedroom layout with bunkbeds and stuffed animals, it looked absolutely hilarious.
One of my favorite breakfast places was definitely Paris Baguette which serve some of the best quality bread I have ever had.
How can I leave out the Hello Kitty Cafe, it was located in a side alleyway. Unfortuntely, I didn't have enough time to go inside, I will save that for next time.
On my last night I asked a waitress at a restaurant to recommend me a popular dish. She served me Spicy Eel and honestly I have never eaten something so spicy, half way through the dish I had stop eating because my stomach was in serious pain.
